LUMINOUS
Join us for a weekend of family friendly fun as we celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival in the heart of Chinatown.
206 Bourke Street will be celebrating one of Melbourne’s most treasured cultural celebrations this September, as the Mid-Autumn Festival, Luminous at 206 Bourke Street, takes over the centre, in the heart of Melbourne’s Chinatown.
The Mid-Autumn Festival is a traditional festival celebrated in Chinese culture and other Asian countries, such as Japan, Korea, and Vietnam. It is China’s second most important festival after the Lunar New Year. It falls on the 15th day of the eighth month of the Chinese lunar calendar, which is in September or early October on the Gregorian calendar. In 2023, the Mid-Autumn Festival falls on September 29th (Friday) 2023. The festival celebrates the rice harvest and many fruits, as well as a time for family reunions and Thanksgiving. People celebrate it by having dinner with their families, worshipping the moon, lighting lanterns, eating mooncakes, and telling stories.
Join us as we mark the occasion with lots of fun activities across the long weekend!
